Like a lot of artists, I have been involved in art beginning at a very early age. I had the advantage of being raised in a household in which both parents were artists. I felt very blessed that they were very knowledgeable and always encouraged me in my art. My mother was an accomplished oil painter and my father was an oil painter, sculptor and master jeweler. At the age of 15 I started a 13-year career as a jeweler until I was hired by the fire department in 1982.

Throughout my life, creating art with a pencil continues to be a definite passion of mine, and has always emerged in the forefront of the mediums that I have worked with. As with the beauty you can find in some black and white photographs, beauty can also be expressed quite well using graphite and charcoal alone. I consider my drawings as realism, but shy away from the term “photorealism” since I add my own interpretation to the subjects I draw. I also tend to challenge myself in each and every one of them. I very much enjoy experimenting with a lot of other media, especially colored pencil and acrylics. I love drawing portraits, still life, wildlife, the occasional commission, and just about anything that looks good in graphite!
